The main goal is to build a foundation of strength, stamina and confidence that will enable our athleties to maximize their potential. Introduce exercises and techniques that will improve and develop running form, technique and max velocity. Using the challenges of this sport our athletes will encounter and overcome to develop critical skills to be productive and successful members of society.
Our athletes will train in groups based on event disciplines and the focus will be on developing technical, physical and mental skills needed to improve athletic performance. Our program includes not only event specific training but strength and conditioning components as well.
Coach Tramell Smith has an unrivaled passion for positively impacting the lives of our youth through the sport of track and field. He competed for 12 years from high school all the way to a short stint as a professional runner. Primarily an 800m runner, Tramell was an Illinois state champ and multiple time HS All-American. The University of Illinois offered him a full athletic scholarship and Tramell completed his collegiate career as a 8 time Big-10 Conference champ, 3 time All-American and National runner-up as member of 4x4 relay. After college Tramell moved to Lubbock, Texas and trained/competed as a professional runner while assisting Texas Tech University as a volunteer assistant coach. Upon retiring from the sport he eventually made it to Georgia where he now works as a full time Personal trainer and Strength Coach and just completed his 11th year as an assistant coach for Decatur High School. In that time span Tramell has coached 17 individual state champions, won 4 team titles and coached athletes to 3 state records. With more than 25 years experience in the sport of track & field Coach Smith’s main philosophy is “in this sport you get what you give” and uses this thought process to prepare the kids for competition and for life.
My name is Brandon Butler.
I am a sports Performance Coach who specializes in increasing explosiveness and body awareness in youth athletes. I work with youth athletes from multiple sports and backgrounds. I've helped young athletes become more powerful and more efficient and confident in their abilities while awarded scholarships to some of the top universities.
As a youth I personally excelled in high school track and field. In field events I was a successful triple jumper and a better than average javelin thrower. While on the track I ran the open 100 meter race the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter races.
With 18 years of fitness coaching experience I've been fortunate to help people from all backgrounds reach and maintain their highest fitness levels.
I attended Mississippi State on a football scholarship and also played 2 years of semi professional arena league football.
Fitness Program director at Elizabeth Baptist Church. I have a passion for helping young athletes become faster stronger and more confident..
My name is Casey Todd I currently coach cross country and track at Decatur High School. I was a runner myself for 10 years. In high school, I did cross country and ran 1600 and 3200. I attended Piedmont University for Sports Communications and raced on their cross country team and ran indoor 5k and mile. Ran outdoor in the 800 sometimes, 1500, and 3k steeple. I worked as a personal trainer for a little over a year and gained expertise on muscles and muscle growth, an area I also studied in college. I started coaching at Decatur in 2020. I love coaching and seeing the younger generation fall in love with the sport like I did. I hope to continue coaching for as long as I can!
